What to Do Before Help Arrives: Key Webinar Takeaways

In emergencies, every second counts.
But what happens before a nurse or doctor arrives? Who steps in first?

That’s the question we tackled during CLI College’s powerful and practical webinar titled “Before the Nurse Arrives: Be the First Line of Care.” Held on Friday, July 25, this free online event brought together health professionals, students, caregivers, and everyday citizens — all united by one goal: to learn how to save lives before professional help arrives.

Key Themes from the Webinar

1. First Aid is for Everyone — Not Just Medical Professionals
You don’t need to wear scrubs to make a difference. Every participant walked away understanding that first aid and basic life support (BLS) are accessible, teachable, and necessary for all.

2. Mental Health Response is Just as Important as Physical First Aid
Miss Unwana Etebong stressed the urgent need to include emotional and psychological support in first responder training. Anxiety, panic attacks, trauma, and addiction are emergencies too — and must be treated with the same urgency.

3. The Healthcare Gap in Nigeria is Real — But So Is the Power of Community
With only one doctor serving nearly 9,000 Nigerians, the first few minutes of an emergency often fall to family members, teachers, neighbours, or bystanders. That’s why CLI College, in partnership with the American Heart Association, is committed to delivering globally recognised training in CPR, AED, First Aid, and more.
