CLI College Webinar on Stress Management

Stress Management: Lessons from The Un-Hustle Culture Webinar

In a world where being busy is often celebrated, it’s easy to believe that slowing down is a sign of weakness. We’re constantly encouraged to do more, achieve more, and keep pushing, even when we’re exhausted.

To challenge this mindset, CLI College Nigeria recently hosted The Un-Hustle Culture: Simple Ways to Manage Stress and Nurture Your Mental Health, a webinar led by Nurse Unwana, a Registered Nurse (RN) and Mental Health Nurse. The session brought together participants for an honest conversation about stress, burnout, and the importance of prioritising mental wellbeing.

Why This Conversation Matters

Hustle culture has become deeply embedded in our daily lives. While ambition and hard work are valuable, constantly operating under pressure without adequate rest can take a serious toll on both our mental and physical health.

During the webinar, Nurse Unwana explained that the goal isn’t to stop working hard—it’s to work and live in a way that is sustainable. Success should never come at the cost of your health.

Understanding Stress

Stress is a natural response to life’s demands. It can sometimes motivate us to perform better or meet important deadlines. However, when stress becomes constant and unmanaged, it begins to affect every area of our lives.

Participants learned that chronic stress can impact:

  • Sleep quality
  • Mood and emotions
  • Memory and concentration
  • Energy levels
  • Physical health

Recognising these signs early is essential to prevent stress from developing into something more serious.

Stress vs Burnout: Knowing the Difference

One of the most insightful parts of the webinar was understanding the difference between stress and burnout.

Stress often feels like having too much to handle. You’re overwhelmed but still hopeful that things will improve once everything is under control.

Burnout, on the other hand, happens after prolonged, unmanaged stress. It leaves you emotionally drained, unmotivated, and feeling like you have nothing left to give.

Knowing the difference helps people identify when they need to pause and seek support before reaching complete exhaustion.

Signs You Shouldn’t Ignore

Stress doesn’t always show up in obvious ways. Nurse Unwana highlighted several warning signs that many people often dismiss, including:

  • Constant fatigue
  • Frequent headaches
  • Anxiety and irritability
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Changes in appetite
  • Feeling overwhelmed
  • Loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed

These symptoms are often your body’s way of asking you to slow down and pay attention.

Practical Ways to Manage Stress

The webinar wasn’t just about identifying the problem—it focused on practical solutions that participants could begin applying immediately.

Some of the recommendations included:

  • Prioritise quality sleep and adequate rest.
  • Engage in regular physical activity.
  • Practice mindfulness, meditation, or deep breathing exercises.
  • Set healthy boundaries and learn to say no when necessary.
  • Stop comparing your journey to other people’s highlight reels.
  • Reach out to trusted friends, family members, or healthcare professionals when stress becomes overwhelming.

One message stood out throughout the session: asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Redefining Success

Perhaps the most powerful takeaway from the webinar was the reminder that success should be measured by more than productivity alone.

Healthy ambition allows room for rest, relationships, personal growth, and mental wellbeing. Constant exhaustion should never become a badge of honour.

As Nurse Unwana encouraged participants, redefining success means creating a life where achievement and wellbeing can exist together.

Looking Ahead

At CLI College Nigeria, we believe conversations like these are essential. Mental health deserves the same attention and care as physical health, and creating spaces where people can learn, reflect, and grow is part of our commitment to community wellbeing.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Nurse Unwana for sharing her expertise and to everyone who joined us for this meaningful session.
